MEASUREMENTS REQUIRED FOR GLOVEMAKING:

1. A drawing around the hand with the fingers spread.

Right hand if right-handed, left hand if left-handed. I only need both hands if sizes or shape are very different.

Whenever possible it is best to supply the original drawing as photocopies and email transmissions distort and stretch the image. If this is not possible the scan should be made including a rulers or tape placed horizontally and vertically with the image.

2. A measurement taken around the widest part of the hand at the knuckles.

We always prefer an actual measurement taken, rather than a “glove size” which varies between manufacturers the design & the type of leather or material that is used.

The measurement should be taken as tightly as possible as I can then make more accurate judgements in cutting, based on the stretch of the leather or fabric that the glove is cut from.

3. Wrist measurement.

This is required when the glove is to have a wrist closure of some form.

EXTRA MEASUREMENTS REQUIRED FOR GAUNTLET STYLES:

4. Length of cuff - from wrist.

5. Width of cuff at widest point.

EXTRA MEASUREMENTS REQUIRED FOR LONG GLOVES:

6. Measurement around elbow. (arm straight)

7. Measurement around upper arm.

i.e. Where glove is to finish. If you require the glove to be a tight fit at this point give actual arm measurement but if you require the glove to “stand-away” give a  finished width of glove measurement as well.

8. Wrist to elbow.

9. Wrist to finished length.
